UH Coogs Thrash Texas State 68-28

The 2010 UH Coogs had some ambitious goals as a program going into the season on and off the field.

Give Coach K a contract extension? Check
Double the number of season ticket holders? Check.
Begin fundraising for the stadium renovation? Check.
Rebuild the defense? Check.
Go undefeated and play in a BCS bowl game? We'll see.

They took the first step to that quest for an undefeated season by smacking Texas State 68-28 in front of an all time record Robertson Stadium crowd of 32,119.

“Cougar football is back,” said UH linebacker Marcus McGraw in a Houston Chronicle interview. “Everybody is ready see what we can do. We’re excited about the season, and we’re glad everybody else is excited. We feel like have a lot of unfinished business out there, and we’re just ready to take care of it.”

Case Keenum 17 of 22 passes for 274 yards five touchdowns and two interceptions before turning over the offense to Cotton Turner after the Coogs piled up a 54-7 halftime lead.

They pulled the starters after the first series in the third quarter and gave the younglings a chance to get in some game action.

Their next game is their nationally televised C-USA opener against the team that probably cost them a BCS bowl berth in UTEP. The Miners upset the then number 12 ranked Coogs 58-41 in El Paso last season, and it's a fact that probably will provide much motivation for the 2010 Cougar squad going into this Friday's game at the Rob.

Hopefully I'll be chillin' in Massachusetts by the time that game kicks off.
